Solution 1- Uninstall QuickBooks and install it again after renaming the installation folder

You might encounter this error due to damaged software that can no longer run without problems. The reasons can be corrupt program files due to a defective installation of QuickBooks on your system. You need to install the software again on your system to resolve the issue. The installation folder should also be renamed to prevent the software from running when you reinstall it. Use these steps-

  1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and select Task Manager in the options.

  2. Go to the Processes tab and check if QBDBMgrN.exe, QBDBMgr.exe, QBW32.exe, or QBCFMonitorService.exe are running.

  3. Single-click on each process to highlight it and click End Task.

  4. Click Yes on the warning message if it occurs.

  5. Open your Control Panel from the Settings option in the Windows Start Menu.

  6. Click the Apps option and locate QuickBooks in the programs list.

  7. Single-click the QuickBooks icon and tap Uninstall.

  8. Click Next and wait until the software is completely removed.

Once the background processes of QB are stopped and the program is removed, you’ll have to rename the QuickBooks installation folder before reinstalling it.

  1. Press Windows + E to run the file explorer.

  2. Click on the View option at the top and select Hidden items.

  3. You'll find your QuickBooks folder in C:\Users(Username)\Appdata\Local\Intuit\QuickBooks (year).

  4. Right-click the folder containing your company's files and select Rename.

  5. Type ‘old’ at the end of the folder name and save it.

  6. Install QuickBooks on your computer.

  7. After the software is fully installed, click the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.

  8. Under the Update Now tab, tap Reset updates and click Get updates.

  9. Re-open the software and follow the instructions to install the update.

  10. Update the payroll service after updating the software to the latest version.
